Before kick-off, a minute's silence was well observed in memory of a true Harwich and Parkeston supporter, John Bourn, who followed his team loyally, home and away.
Harwich attacked in the 10th minute when Gareth Heath's through ball found Alfie Canning whose shot produced a fine save from Rangers goalkeeper Jack Lines - the ex-Shrimper turning the ball around the post.
The Shrimpers took the lead 5 minutes later when James Letts passed to Tyler Sullivan, who was brought down, and from the resultant penalty kick, Mayhew's fierce, well-placed shot gave Lines no chance of saving.
It was proving to be a fast-paced, competitive, pre-season work-out for the teams and Harwich increased their lead in the 25th minute with wing-back Tom Watkins finding midfielder Letts and from his pass Mayhew cut inside before unleashing a powerful drive into the corner of the net.

Rangers came back strongly, forcing Shrimpers keeper Brad Cook to dive low down and make an excellent save. Five minutes later, the visitors reduced the arrears when Harry Willoughby converted a cross at with a well-placed header.
Ten minutes before half time, Harwich established a 3-1 lead to take in at the interval when a long clearance from central defender Jack Wood was headed on by hard-working attacker Canning for Mayhew to complete his hat-trick with a super, left-footed volley.
Essex and Suffolk Border League champions Kings Park Rangers, who are moving up the ladder to Step 6 this season, were providing strong opposition and they narrowed the gap to 3-2 when Ollie Sims crossed for on-the-spot Willoughby to score his second goal with another good header.

Sullivan was impressive in the Shrimpers' engine room and when Mayhew made a foray down the wing before crossing, he had positioned himself perfectly on the edge of the penalty box to drive his shot low just inside the post.
Before the final whistle, Harwich came close to scoring a fifth goal when Heath's clever, defence-splitting through ball found Mayhew whose shot cannoned off the near post.
Best wishes to Kings Park Rangers for a successful season.
