Harwich had Colchester United academy player Joshua Alexander Fouche making his debut and partnering Dan Clarke in central defence. The Shrimpers took the lead in the 15th minute when Forest conceeded a penalty for handball and Sean Bartlett sent the keeper the wrong way to net. With some good moves, Harwich were the better side during the first half and increased their lead in the 29th minute. It was an excellent goal coming when Michael Schofield's well placed free kick was headed home by Sean Bartlett. In the last minute before the break Shrimpers keeper Sam Felgate was injured and ruling that a foul had not been committed, the Referee allowed play to continue. With Felgate on the ground and out of goal, Newbury Forest netted a tap in goal to bring themselves back into contention. Felgate was unable to continue after the break and with no substitute keeper on the bench, Nicky Palmer took over in goal. Newbury Forest languish near the bottom of the league table but now sensed the opportunity to gain a victory and upped their game. Harwich had lost some of their rhythm and had to fight to keep their lead. However they were still creating the better chances and in the final ten minutes hard working substitute Ross Purl set up the opportunity for Matt Geen to put the issue beyond doubt by holding off a challenge and stroking the ball into the net for a well taken goal.
