Harwich had the wind at the backs in the first half and took the lead in the 18th minute when Jake Plane's free kick beat the Town defence to finish in the corner of the net. Seven minutes later the Shrimpers had a great chance to increase their lead but Adam Hampson's powerfull penalty kick was close enough for goalkeeper Ben Gallifant to pull off a good diving save. The Shrimpers had been on top but as half time approached Wivenhoe came back and were dangerous. Early in the second half Harwich scored a vital second goal when they pressed and Hampson scored a poacher goal, his first for the Shrimpers. As the game progressed Harwich had to defend against the wind which was getting stronger and stronger. Wivenhoe were taking advatage but Shrimpers keeper Sam Felgate excelled with fine saves from Matt Tapley and Ezra Dann. As the clock ticked away, Wivenhoe could not find the goal which would bring them back into contention. Town did have chances but Felgate's handling was safe and the Shrimpers resistance spirited. On Harwich breaks Hampson was skillful and Gallifant always alert in the Wivenhoe goal.
