Harwich started brightly but fell behind in the 9th minute to a debatable penalty, converted by Steven Carvell.
The Shrimpers mounted a good attack and Omari Obwoya's dangerous cross shaved the head of the oncoming Harwich skipper Alfie Canning.
In the 11th minute there was a gap between the Shrimpers' midfield and back four and Mo Malik scored a well-taken second goal for Frenford.
Harwich were undeterred and had another scoring opportunity but Canning slipped at the crucial moment and his shot went wide.
With 36 minutes on the clock, Harwich were back in contention when Obwoya was fouled and last season's player of the year Louie Bloom (pictured) coolly converted the resultant penalty kick.
In a good first half, Harwich continued to match their opponents and before the interval, the industrious Alfie Eldridge was fouled on the edge of the penalty area with Bloom's free kick just inches too high.
The second half continued to be a nip-and-tuck affair and, in the 65th minute, Eldridge made another penetrating run to force Frenford goalkeeper Dominic Alexandru to make an excellent diving save to push the ball to safety.
In an all-round impressive Harwich performance, midfielders Eldridge and Rory Harman were outstanding, working like Trojans.
On their synthetic pitch, Frenford were also showing why they occupy a lofty second place in the league table, and went close with a shot that struck the goal stanchion.
Harwich substitute Liam White made a good run to receive a deep cross but, from close range, could not squeeze his shot inside the post.
In the final couple of minutes, Harwich won an indirect free kick inside the penalty area and when the ball came to Bloom, he scored a well-deserved equaliser with a perfectly placed low drive for the jubilant Shrimpers to take home a valuable point.
