Halstead took the lead in the 17th minute when Shrimpers goalkeeper Sam Felgate parried a shot out for the alert Kane Gilbert to side-foot into the net.
Only two minutes later, Halstead were in the driving seat, scoring a second goal, Correy Davidson curling his 20-yard free kick into the top corner of the net.
Harwich's best efforts came from speculative shots from Joe Knight but the Shrimpers were not reproducing the exciting football that they exhibited 3 days earlier in a 2-2 draw against Hutton, and Halstead deserved their interval lead.
A minute after the restart, Harwich were back in contention when Joe Knight laid the ball off for the well-placed Louie Bloom (pictured) to find the net.
This was the signal for the Shrimpers to raise their game and put much more pressure on Halstead. Harwich did have to overcome a setback when Jake Gordon had to be lifted off and could take no further part following an Achilles injury but the substitutions used played their parts well.

Knight was now excelling, leading the Harwich attack, and he forced Town's captain, goalkeeper Jack Cherry, to produce a great save by punching out his pile-driver shot.
It was a thriller now for the home side's supporters as their team pressed for an equaliser and substitute Omari Obwoya fired over a superb cross which was met by an equally brilliant defender's header to thwart the diving Knight, who otherwise would surely have bullet-headed the ball into the gaping net.
In the last minute of normal time, Bloom cut in from the left flank to score a well-deserved equaliser for Harwich with a good finish into the corner of the net.
It was another valuable point for Harwich, again against a good team, which takes them eight points clear of the relegation zone and if they can keep their recent improvement, that elusive victory should come to see them climb to a more comfortable league position.
