The match started with the Harwich defence under pressure, conceding a number of corner kicks.
After 30 minutes, Harwich attacked and they threatened from set-pieces. However, Shrimpers skipper Gareth Heath's excellent deliveries from a free-kick and a dangerous corner kick came to nought with nobody available to take advantage.
One minute before half time, Hullbridge scored the all-important goal when Harwich were unable to contain a break down the flank and from the resultant cross the unmarked Dan Trendall netted.
Within a few minutes of the start of the second half, Harwich had a golden chance to equalise when the ball fell to Tiwa Odufuye (pictured) but, when well placed in the penalty area, his shot dipped a foot over the crossbar.
Harwich could not be faulted for effort as they desperately tried to get back on terms. However, the Hullbridge defence were resolute and refused to give them another clear chance to score.
