Their was a cagey opening 15 minutes with the Shrimpers goalkeeper Oliver Pipa (pictured), a dual signing for Harwich and Brightlingsea Regent, making a good save from a Hutton free kick.
With 25 minutes gone, Harwich threatened when Louie Bloom played a clever pass through the Hutton defence to Tiwa Odufuye, who volleyed over the crossbar.

Five minutes later, Harwich suffered a blow when Alfie Eldridge received a nasty knee injury and could take no further part.
A minute before half time, a long kick from Pipa found Liam White, just inside the Hutton half, and he did well to take the ball to the penalty area where his shot ricocheted off a defender to Bloom who stabbed it into the net to the delight of his team-mates and the home supporters.
In the second half, Bloom went clean through for Harwich but Hutton goalkeeper Stefan Lamacq got down well at the near post to block his shot at the expense of a corner.

Pipa was having an excellent debut for Harwich and he twice excelled, making a diving save to prevent the ball from entering the corner of the net.
In the closing 30 minutes, Hutton came forward strongly but the Harwich defence refused to cave in, whilst in midfield Harwich ran their socks off, with Leo Carty and substitute Josh Hawkins catching the eye.
On a quick breakaway, Harwich had the chance to seal victory when Joe Wood unselfishly set up fellow substitute Gareth Heath but uncharacteristically he shinned his shot wide.
At the final whistle, having seen off a good Hutton team, there were big Harwich celebrations. It had been a promising start with the Shrimpers looking very capable of further improvement.
