Report by Colin Rogers and Terry Francis
Harwich came close to opening the scoring in the 25th minute when, from an Alfie Canning cross, Joe Knight's diving header struck the crossbar.
The Shrimpers created further opportunities with Louie Bloom's shot going just wide and also when Liam White's dangerous cross went begging.
With 37 minutes gone, Hackney Wick took the lead with a fierce drive, well struck by Alex Nicolaides, who fired in from the edge of the penalty area.
In the 40th minute, Knight went down following a tackle that left stud marks in his upper torso, leaving the referee with no option but to produce a red card.
Within 5 minutes of start of the second half, Bloom (pictured) crossed the ball to the far post where Knight was unlucky to see his header strike the crossbar.
Harwich equalised in the 65th minute when right-back Jack Cosby's well-placed long pass picked out Bloom on the left flank and he made a good run before drilling a low shot home.

Harwich were below their best and their efforts to make their numerical advantage count were met with resolute resistance by the Wick.
From a Canning corner kick, Charlie Canham was well placed but could not direct his powerful header on target.
With 15 minutes remaining, Harwich were caught out pushing forward and Nicolaides was Hackney Wick's match winner, beating his marker to the ball, then again shooting from the edge of the penalty area and giving the already advancing goalkeeper Brad Cook no chance with a smart finish.
Harwich tried hard to rescue something from the game, but were unable to trouble the visiting goalkeeper.
Having done well to retain their Step 5 status for next season, Harwich will be disappointed to have failed to produce a victory for their loyal home supporters to celebrate with them in this their last home fixture.
