NO JOY FOR HARWICH AS LITTLE OAKLEY DISPLAY PROMOTION FORM

THE SHRIMPERS TRAILED TO A SUPER FINISH BY STRIKER SONNY DUTTON AT HALF -TIME AND THEN 2 GOALS IN 3 SECOND-HALF MINUTES CLINCHED VICTORY FOR THE ACORNS

Report by Terry Francis and Colin Rogers

It was a pleasure to see the Royal Oak stadium buzzing with a bumper attendance of 665 fans on Non-League Day.
The highest home attendance for a competitive Harwich match in 29 years provided an excellent local derby atmosphere.
The first half was evenly contested with goalscoring chances at a premium.
A rare chance for Harwich came in the 25th minute when Alfie Canning fired a free kick over the crossbar.
Little Oakley threatened, using every opportunity to utilise long throw-ins to their advantage, but the Shrimpers defended well to resist the pressure applied.
With 5 minutes remaining until the half-time interval and the game still goal-less, the Acorns mounted an attack from which a clearance fell to Sonny Dutton whose superb drive bulleted just inches inside the post to give diving goalkeeper Brad Cook no chance of stopping.
The opening 15 minutes of the second period continued to be closely contested but midway through the half, two goals put Little Oakley firmly in the driving seat.

In the 73rd minute, Dutton again proved his prowess, this time heading his and the Acorns second goal at the far post. Three minutes later, the visitors extended their lead to 3-0 when Luke Hipkin headed, unchallenged, into the net.
With time remaining, Harwich fought hard to make sure that they did not concede again and from their view-point, it was a plus to see Luke Mayhew, still needing time to get back to his best after a long injury, come on and display his skills.
However, there was no denying that the Acorns possessed that extra quality within their ranks, with promotion to Step 4 well within their capabilities.
Harwich team: Brad Cook, Tom Watkins, Charlie Canham, Oakley McNair, Reece Harte, Tyler Sullivan, Jenson Goode, Alfie Canning, Louie Bloom, Tiwa Odufuye and Joe Knight. Substitutes: Luke Mayhew, Zach Pedro and Liam White (all used), Jack Wood and Jack Cosby (not used).
