HARWICH & PARKESTON PLEASE FANS WITH HOME WIN

Terry Francis21 Mar - 22:59

AFTER A TOUGH RUN WHICH SAW THEM CLAIM JUST 1 POINT FROM 5 GAMES, THE SHRIMPERS SAW OFF 7TH-PLACED WOODFORD TOWN 3-1 ON THE OAK

Report by Terry Francis and Colin Rogers

Harwich came close to scoring early on when Joe Knight's shot was parried by Woodford goalkeeper Pharrell Chinyere and he then completed a good double save by turning Alfie Canning's effort around the post.
However, the Shrimpers were not to be denied and took the lead in the 11th minute when Canning's fierce shot flew into the top of the net.
Woodford levelled the scores in the 21st minute when, from a corner kick, skipper Luke Steele placed his shot into the right-hand corner of the net.
Harwich came back to press the visitors' defence and from Knight's spectacular overhead kick, Chinyere pulled off another fine save to push the ball up onto the crossbar.
However, Harwich were rewarded with 34 minutes on the clock when they regained the lead - Canning's dangerous corner saw Knight head home from close range.
Within another 5 minutes Harwich were in the driving seat, increasing their advantage to 3-1. Knight's persistence caused Town's central defender to misplace his pass back and the Shrimpers striker (pictured) read the situation perfectly to pounce, scoring his second goal with a difficult finish wide of Chinyere.

It was proving to be an excellent first half for Harwich and Knight created a chance to complete his hat-trick when he controlled Shrimpers goalkeeper Brad Cook's long clearance, flicking the ball over a defender then heading it goalwards, but Chinyere was able to gather.
By contrast to the exciting first half goalscoring, the second period was contested mainly in midfield with Woodford now sharing possession.
Harwich's best chance of adding to their tally came when Canning sent left winger Tiwa Odufuye away and his shot was tipped over the crossbar by Chinyere.
Harwich have been thwarted by late comebacks in recent weeks, but this time they were in control of the situation and not in danger of losing their deserved lead as they saw out what was arguably their best win of the season.
The victory sets Harwich up nicely for next Saturday's derby showdown with high-flying Little Oakley when a big crowd is expected on the Royal Oak for the 1200 kick-off on what is 'Non-League Day'.
Harwich team: Brad Cook, Jack Cosby, Charlie Canham, Oakley McNair, Reece Harte, Tyler Sullivan, Jenson Goode, Alfie Canning (captain), Louie Bloom, Tiwa Odufuye and Joe Knight. Substitutes: Tom Watkins, Luke Mayhew, Liam White, Zach Pedro (all used) & Jack Wood (not used).
