HONOURS EVEN IN SIX-GOAL THRILLER

HONOURS EVEN IN SIX-GOAL THRILLER

Terry Francis15 Mar - 12:19

AN ENTERTAINING 3-3 DRAW CULMINATED WITH PROMOTION-CHASING BARKING SNATCHING A POINT WITH THE LAST KICK OF THE MATCH

REPORT BY COLIN ROGERS

Harwich started well with Louie Bloom firing in a shot that went inches past the post.
Barking came back, creating a chance that resulted in a shot going just over the Shrimpers' crossbar.
In the 10th minute, Harwich attacked with Alfie Canning's neat shot on the turn forcing visiting goalkeeper Omer Ozer to pull off a good save by diving to turn the ball around the post. From Canning's corner, Bloom headed the ball goalwards where Joe Knight was positioned to stab his shot into the net, giving Harwich the lead with a poacher's goal.
Five minutes later, Canning was prominent again, sending over a cross from which Knight's header went a fraction outside the post with the keeper beaten.
Shrimpers keeper Brad Cook was called into action, pulling off a good save when, from a shot taken from the edge of the penalty area, he pushed the ball out at the expense of a corner kick.
With half an hour gone, Harwich doubled their lead when, from skipper Gareth Heath's through pass, Canning beat two defenders before shooting low into the bottom of the net.

With half time approaching, Barking pressed with a move down the right flank, that finished with Ryan Pickles scoring to reduce Harwich's advantage to 2-1. The visitors also came close to netting an equaliser with a 30-yard free kick that hit the outside of the post.
Early in the second half there were more joyful celebrations for Harwich when, following a good move involving Tyler Sullivan and Heath, Bloom laid the the ball off for recent signing Jensen Goode to score his first goal for the Shrimpers with a shot that went high into the net.
Free-scoring Barking are enjoying a run that has taken them to 3rd spot in the league table and they now pressed Harwich onto the defensive.
With an hour played, the visitors were rewarded when Cook's fisted-out clearance fell to Fahad Nyanja, who narrowed the deficit to a single goal with a well-taken shot.
Shrimpers keeper Cook was now in the thick of the action, diving full length to save and then making another excellent stop with his feet.
It seemed that Harwich had weathered the storm and would achieve a notable victory but there was concern for Harwich in the final stages when Cook dived bravely at the feet of an attacker and had to receive lengthy treatment before continuing.
With the almost the last kick of the game, Barking snatched a point when Murtada Lo Seye's superb strike rocketed into the net, giving Cook no chance of stopping.
