SHRIMPERS HAVE TO SETTLE FOR A DRAW AGAINST FRENFORD

SHRIMPERS HAVE TO SETTLE FOR A DRAW AGAINST FRENFORD

Terry Francis31 Jan - 23:33

HARWICH'S FIRST-HALF DOMINANCE YIELDED ONLY A SLENDER 1-0 LEAD AND LOWLY FRENFORD CAME BACK TO SHARE THE POINTS

Report by Terry Francis and Colin Rogers

Harwich laid siege to the Frenford goal in the early stages. From a corner kick swung underneath the crossbar by Jamie Eveleigh, the ball came out and the Shrimpers thought that they had scored when Charlie Canham's header went into the net, but the referee had spotted an infringement in the penalty area.
Whilst still in the first 15 minutes, Liam White was pulled down and Harwich were awarded a penalty. From Shaun Avis' spot kick, Frenford goalkeeper Domonic Alexandru guessed correctly and dived to his left to save.
Midway through the half, Harwich took the lead when from just inside the Frenford half, Eveleigh made a run, beating 3 defenders, before netting a brilliant individual goal.
The visitors' goalkeeper, Alexandru, was in top form and he dived full length to tip Canham's goalbound header over the crossbar and later he also turned Louie Bloom's powerful shot over the bar.
In the last 10 minutes of the half, Frenford came back and when they threatened, Canham made a good, last-ditch block.
So at the break, Harwich could have built a decisive lead instead of their slender advantage.

Soon after the restart, Harwich created another opportunity but Joe Knight's effort was punched clear by Alexandru.
The game was now being equally contested and when in the 70th minute Frenford won a free kick just outside the Shrimpers penalty area, Correy Davidson curled the ball around the defensive wall and into the far corner of the net.
With both teams searching for a winning goal, for Harwich, Bloom's fierce shot was tipped over the bar by Alexandru.
Ten minutes remained when Harwich had their best chance of the second half. Substitute Zachary Pedro broke clean through but could not get enough power into his shot and the advancing Alexandru was able to save.
A point apiece lifted Harwich one place to 13th position in the league table and bottom club Frenford to 4 points from safety.
Harwich team: Brad Cook, Alfie Eldridge, Charlie Canham, Jack Wood {Captain}, Tiwa Odufuye, Alfie Canning, Liam White, Louie Bloom, Jamie Eveleigh, Joe Knight and Shaun Avis. Substitutes: Gareth Heath, Tyler Sullivan, Zachary Pedro (all used), Reece Harte and Oakley McNair (not used).
