MATCH ABANDONED WITH SHRIMPERS IN COMMAND

HARWICH WERE LEADING SAFFRON WALDEN 2-0 AFTER 40 MINUTES AND THREATENING TO PULL OFF A NOTABLE VICTORY WHEN FOG THWARTED THEIR HOPES

REPORT BY COLIN ROGERS

Harwich started on the front foot with new signing Jamie Eveleigh prominent attacking down the right flank.
In the 10th minute, Saffron Walden, who started the day in the play-off positions, came back with a shot that went just over the crossbar.
There were 19 minutes on the clock when Eveleigh made a run from the halfway line before sending over a well-placed cross from which Liam White gave Harwich the lead with a powerful header.
Next, Shrimpers goalkeeper Brad Cook was called into action, diving full length to save.
Harwich were playing really well against strong opposition and in the 35th minute they increased their lead when Tom Watkins' cross fell to Louie Bloom who, from inside the penalty box, finished well with a shot that nestled in the very top corner of the net.

With 5 minutes to go before the half-time interval, the mist that had been gradually descending, thickened into fog.
The referee called a 15-minute halt to play but when there was no improvement in conditions, abandoned the match, which will now be replayed on Tuesday February 10.
Despite this disappointment, the performance Harwich had given will have boosted their confidence still further, following on from Wednesday night's good showing against another of the league's high-fliers, Woodford.
Harwich team: Brad Cook, Tom Watkins, Charlie Canham, Jack Wood, Tiwa Odufuye, Alfie Eldridge, Liam White, Alfie Canning, Jamie Eveleigh, Louie Bloom and Shaun Avis. Substitutes: Oakley McNair, Jack Milne, Tyler Sullivan, Reece Harte and Gareth Heath (all not used).
