Report by Terry Francis and Colin Rogers
In the early stages, the teams were evenly matched and Harwich went close when from a Gareth Heath corner kick, Louie Bloom's header was just off target.
With 20 minutes gone, Buckhurst Hill took the lead with a well-worked move that culminated with Archie Hammond giving Shrimpers keeper Brad Cook no chance with a low shot that nestled in the corner of the net.
Eight minutes later, Harwich were back on terms when Luke Mayhew's fierce drive rocketed against the underside of the crossbar to come down over the goal-line.
Buckhurst Hill were looking sharp in attack and had that extra zip when they reached the Harwich penalty area and were rewarded in the 32nd minute when their nippy wide man Callum Maltese worked the ball behind the home defence to shoot his side into the lead.
A few minutes before the half-time break, Buckhurst Hill were defending when there was a clash and two of their players had to receive treatment. Whilst this was happening the referee and his assistant conferred having spotted an off-the-ball incident. Bloom (pictured) was controversially adjudged the offender and dismissed.

Harwich came out for the second half with the odds against them and although they fought with determination, Buckhurst Hill were formidable opponents.
Heath raised the Shrimpers hopes with a dangerous corner kick but goalkeeper Christian North was alert and pulled off a good save.
With 14 minutes of the second half played, Hammond increased the Stags' lead to give Harwich a mountain to climb.
There was the chance of an unlikely comeback when Long made a strong run to burst through the visitors' defence but he was unable to get any power into his shot and North gathered the ball easily.
With ten minutes remaining, Harry Lusher scored Buckhurst Hill's 4th goal and then in the 90th minute netted a 5th as his team romped to victory.
It was not the Shrimpers' day but late in the game there was a bright spot when manager Matt Carmichael gave a run-out to Dylan Crowley and Jack Milne, who had earlier in the week featured in the club's Under-18 team, who had achieved a splendid 4-0 victory over Felixstowe in the FA Youth Cup.
