HARWICH BACK ON TRACK WITH A VICTORY OVER WEST ESSEX

HARWICH BACK ON TRACK WITH A VICTORY OVER WEST ESSEX

Terry Francis30 Aug - 21:16

AFTER THEIR DISAPPOINTING DEFEAT IN THE FA VASE LAST WEEK, THE SHRIMPERS BOUNCED BACK TO BRING HOME 3 POINTS

Report by Daniel Rogers
From a free-kick in the 4th minute, Shrimpers striker Louie Bloom's header went straight to the goalkeeper.
Ten minutes later Harwich were successful, taking the lead when Max Long's driven free-kick from the byline found Charlie Canham, who netted with a bullet header.
Midway through the half, West Essex created a good chance when their number 9, Yemi Adelani, was through and shot just wide of the target.
Harwich pressed with winger Charlie Lindoe sending over an excellent cross and the home defence did well to block Bloom's shot.
With half an hour gone, West Essex levelled the scores with Adelani heading home at the far post.
Just before half time from another Harwich set-piece, Long again was precise with his kick and the home keeper excelled, saving Canham's point-blank header.
At the start of the second half, it was Canham's defensive qualities that were needed when he made a great block to prevent Harwich from falling behind.
In the 57th minute, Harwich regained the lead when a West Essex defender's pass went straight to Greg Rodger and he scored a poacher's goal by sliding the ball into the empty net from a difficult, acute angle.
Harwich suffered a major setback when Rodger went down with a serious-looking knee injury and had to be stretchered off after a 12-minute treatment.
Play resumed and Harwich increased their lead in the 75th minute when Alfie Canning's header hit the post before falling to Bloom (pictured), who powered his shot into the back of the net.
There was to be a further 7-minute delay, following a clash of heads in which Shrimper Dan Keeble suffered a nasty gash. He was able to continue after treatment but sadly his West Essex opponent was not.
Harwich were on the offensive in these closing stages. Lindoe cut the ball back for Alfie Eldridge to shoot over, Canning had a good shot that went just wide and Bloom had a close-range effort that was blocked at the expense of a corner.
It was a satisfying effort from the Harwich team, with everyone playing their part.
The Shrimpers have now having gained 9 points from their 5 league games played and sit in a very respectable 6th position in the table.
