REPORT BY DANIEL AND COLIN ROGERS
Harwich's first goalscoring attempt came in the second minute when Joe Knight's shot went just wide.
From then on it was a very tight affair with little goalmouth action and the Shrimpers' next effort came in the 25th minute when Greg Rodger's shot was comfortably saved.
With 30 minutes on the clock, Harwich began to get into their stride, forcing the home defence to block two goalbound shots.
It was in the 40th minute that Harwich were rewarded for their enterprise when their goalkeeper, Brad Cook, launched a long clearance over the top of the Parson Drove defence for Knight to run onto and lob the keeper with the ball entering the net just under the crossbar - a really good goal that will have met with the delighted approval of Shrimpers boss Matt Carmichael.
A minute later, Harwich scored their second goal when Louie Bloom won the ball and netted with a clinical finish.
The floodlights were switched on for the start of the second half but after 7 minutes the Parson Drove village suffered a brief power cut. There was enough light for play to continue but with a further 3 minutes having elapsed, and Parson Drove having reduced the arrears with a well-taken goal, the referee called a halt.
For technical reasons, a 20-minute wait was required before there could be an attempt to switch the floodlights back on. Both teams were happy to wait but it was the referee's decision and he ruled that the match should be abandoned.
Obviously this was a disappointment for the Shrimpers and their supporters, having made a long, wasted journey.
The game has now been rearranged for Saturday April 12.
