Harwich made a good start with Alfie Smith firing just over the crossbar and were on top for the first 15 minutes. However the Haverhill team
contained some skilful players who knew how to use their home surface and play was evenly contested for the next 25 minutes. With half time approaching the Shrimpers got back on top with a corner by Gareth Heath from which Ben Hammonds powerful header thudded against the crossbar. Then in the 43rd minute Luke Mayhew, having switched to the right hand flank, found space before crossing for Joe Knight to give the Shrimpers the lead with a well directed header.
Haverhill were quick out of the blocks at the start of the second half forcing goalkeeper Brad Cook to dive full length to pull of a fine save from Ethan Murphy's goal-bound shot. Only a minute later Borough equalised when the Shrimpers conceded a penalty and Callum Stone made no mistake with his spot kick.
This proved the signal for Harwich to click into top gear with a move started by wing back Archie Corner's long pass from which Luke Mayhew crossed for Joe Knight to head the Shrimpers back into the lead, another goal which featured the quality of this duo.
Borough had given a good account of themselves but from this stage there was to be only one winner. Harwich third goal was again well worked with Luke Mayhew playing the ball to Joe Knight who crossed to the edge of the penalty area where skipper Gareth Heath made space for his well struck drive that bulleted into the net off the underside of the crossbar.
The icing on the cake for Harwich was a 4th goal, Ben Hammond's pass finding Joe Knight whose clinical finish completed his hat trick and was his 21st goal of the season.
