THE SHRIMPERS PUT LAST WEEKS DEFEAT BEHIND THEM WITH A COMMANDING PERFORMANCE THAT RENEWED THEIR CONFIDENCE

Despite a rainy week the pitch looked in good condition at the start. Debenham's big striker Ben Golding looked dangerous in the opening stages, winning the ball in the air and also having a shot go inches over the crossbar. However Joe Knight was leading the Harwich attack in lively fashion and gave notice that he was to prove an even more potent threat when his shot forced goalkeeper Dan Stobbart to make an excellent diving save at the expense of a corner. Harwich took the lead in the 10th minute when Matt Geen laid the ball back to Joe Knight who netted with a good finish through a crowded goalmouth. Harwich were making good use of the surface to pass the ball well and get on top. The Shrimpers increased their lead in the 35th minute when Gareth Heath threaded a pass through to Joe Knight who calmly flicked his shot over the oncoming Stobbart. Heavy rain torrented down for the remaining ten minutes of the first half with Harwich going in at the break deserving their two goal lead.
In the 65th minute right back Shaun Kioussis, from deep in his own half, picked out Joe Knight with pin point long pass who ran through to place his shot wide of Stobbart and complete a superb hat trick. The now saturated pitch was cutting up badly to make it much more difficult for the players to avoid mistakes. Midfielders Steve Polley and Alfie Smith both had excellent games to give Harwich dominance and although Debenham never gave up the 3-0 score-line had made the game safe for the Shrimpers.
As the other results came in, it had been a good day for Harwich as they had strengthened their position in the play off places.
Harwich team: Brad Cook, Shaun Kioussis, Ben Hammond, Jack Wood, Reece Harte, Matt Geen, Steve Polley, Alfie Smith, Luke Mayhew, Gareth Heath and Joe Knight. Substitutes Used: Jamie Eades, Harry Tuck and Archie Corner.
