Harwich were a goal down after only 3 minutes when they failed to clear the ball in midfield and from the edge of the penalty box Louie Bamford saw goalkeeper Brad Cook off his goal-line and his well taken shot nestled in the roof of the net. There followed a 15-minute spell when the lively young Borough team pressured Harwich. The Shrimpers did comeback into the game but in the 29th minute slackness again undid them, and Curtis Harvey made them pay by increasing Haverhill's lead. Worse was to follow when in the 40th minute the visitors mounted a move down the left-hand flank and Harvey scored Haverhill's third goal to complete a dismal first half for Harwich.
Harwich Managers Sean Tynan and Gary Kioussis remained calm in the dressing room and 10 minutes into the second half introduced Jamie Eades into their attack whilst also adjusting the team's midfield formation. Within 5 minutes Harwich reduced the arrears when the ball was crossed, and Jamie Beecham headed home. The Shrimpers seized the opportunity to get on top and Luke Mayhew's lofted cross-shot eluded goalkeeper Joe Wilson to finish under the crossbar in the far corner of the net. The Harwich bosses next move was to bring on young substitutes Archie Corner and Owen Rayment to boost the Shrimpers energy levels still further and from Beecham's corner kick Ben Hammond levelled the scores, beating Wilson all ends up with a powerful header. With the home crowd of 151 urging them on Harwich won a penalty kick and the influential Eade stepped up to tuck home what was to prove the winning goal.
