THE SHRIMPERS WERE IN IMPRESSIVE FORM IN THEIR FIRST WIN OF THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST A GOOD NORWICH TEAM.

Norwich are expected to do well this season but Harwich had a boost to their confidence in the 7th minute when Joe Knight headed the ball on and from Reece Harte's cross skipper Gareth Heath followed up to give the Shrimpers the lead. Midway through the first half Harwich scored their second goal when Joe Knight's shot rebounded off goalkeeper Joe McLaughlin and the alert Luke Mayhew netted. Harwich continued to create chances and deserved their interval lead.
The Shrimpers work rate was excellent throughout this match and they maintained a good shape to their formation with Alfie Smith and Gareth Heath providing a super blend of youth and experience in midfield. Mclaughlin made a fine save for Norwich whilst in attack Charlie Clarke went close for the visitors. Norwich best effort to reduce the arrears came when Shrimpers keeper Brad Cook saved with his feet. Brandon Rusby had the ball in the net but the goal was ruled offside and Matt Geen also went close as Harwich continued to attack. Brad Cook came out to narrow the angle forcing Sam Applegate to shoot past the far post. With the game entering the closing stages Jay Eggerichs sealed victory for a jubilant Harwich with a superb 25 yard volley the fizzed low into the net.
Harwich team: Brad Cook, Shaun Kioussis, Reece Harte, Nathan Kioussis, Jack Wood, M.att Geen, Brandon Rusby, Alfie Smith, Gareth Heath, Joe Knight and Luke Mayhew. Substitutes: Jamie Eades, Jay Eggerichs and Harry Tuck
Congratulations to Gareth Heath on scoring his 50th goal in 178 appearances for Harwich & Parkeston in today's match. Gareth started his long, successful career in football at Harwich before moving on to play at a higher level and we are delighted that he has returned to his home town club.
