The battle for the Championship continues to be between Harwich, West Bergholt, now the favourites , and Newbury Forest. The Shrimpers visit to West Bergholt is now a ‘must win’ game for them and they also have to play Newbury Forest twice.
On Saturday Gas Recreation again raised their game against Harwich and their physical approach proved too much for the Shrimpers. Harwich took the lead in the first half through Tom Brannon and held it until the interval. Gas Rec. got on top after the break and equalised through Bobby Bethell. The Shrimpers were under intense pressure but were within sight of holding out for a point. In the final minutes former Shrimper Jimmy Chatters got the winner for Gas Rec. although Harwich were adamant that they should have been awarded a free kick in the build up.
Harwich Reserves were presented with the Kent Blaxhill Essex & Suffolk Border League Reserve Division One Trophy before their match with Bradfield Rovers Reserves. Harwich went on to win the match 6-1 with goals from Richard Traynor (penalty), Jake Neale, Joe Cheesman, Leroy Eade, Jason Law and their man of the match Lloyd Jewell.
