REPORT BY TERRY FRANCIS AND COLIN ROGERS
Having strengthened their squad with several players from a higher level to seek promotion in the coming season, Holland FC provided strong opposition.
Harwich made a bright start with Gareth Heath setting up Alfie Canning, whose shot forced the Holland goalkeeper to make a super save by turning the ball over the crossbar.
Holland came back strongly but found the Shrimpers' goalkeeper Brad Cook (pictured) in top form, making a great double save when the visitors looked certain to score.
With the teams evenly matched, new signing Charlie Lindoe went close for Harwich before suffering an injury and going off as a precautionary measure.
Canning created another chance for the Shrimpers with Dan Keeble inches away from providing the finishing touch at the far post.
Cook then had to bring off another excellent stop to ensure that the match remained goalless at half time.
The second half saw Harwich twice have narrow escapes from headers that cannoned off the post.
With 15 minutes remaining, Holland were rewarded with a well-taken goal, out of Cook's reach.
Harwich tried hard to level the scores with Louie Bloom providing a moment of magic when he turned his opponent but his colleagues were unable to take advantage.
Late on, there was another chance, this time for Luke Mayhew, but he was unable to manoeuvre the ball onto his favourite scoring foot.
