Wivenhoe took the lead in the first half with a goal from Cai Boylan but it was in the last half hour of the match that the game really came to life. In the 66th minute young substitute Archie Corner made an impact with an inch perfect cross to the far post where Luke Mayhew ghosted in to tap home the Shrimpers equaliser. Harwich performance had been low key in the first hour but they now stepped up the pace using the ball to much better effect and went on an all-out mission to win the game during normal time. Wivenhoe played their part, keeping the Harwich defence on their toes and in a thrilling finish the match went into a penalty shoot-out. Harwich five penalty kicks were excellent, giving the visitors keeper no chance to save. Shrimpers keeper Brad Cook dived and got a hand on Wivenhoe's fourth kick but the shot was too powerful to prevent it entering the net. Then came Town's vital fifth shot with the ball striking the crossbar and Harwich were through to the Third Round.
Very encouraging performances from under 18's Owen Rayment and Archie Corner with Reserve Team players Chris Stratton, Dan Roots, Callum Green and Finley Caro all playing their part.
