REPORT BY BARRY VERNON
On Friday evening Harwich travelled to Walthamstow to face West Essex at the Wadham Lodge Sports Ground. West Essex have started their season well in the Essex Senior League Premier Division and are currently in 4th place, winning the 2 games that they have played scoring 6 goals without conceding.
West Essex started strongly and in the opening 15 minutes Harwich were under pressure. Having done well to survive this the Shrimpers came back to hold their own. The match continued goal less into the second half with Harwich best scoring chance coming when Joe Knight headed just over. The Shrimpers were able to force corner kicks but it was a match where the excellent defences of both teams showed their prowess.
With the scores still 0-0 a really good cup tie was to be decided by the further excitement of a penalty shoot- out with both sets of supporters in good voice. Harwich failed with one vital spot kick and a jubilant West Essex went through to the next round, saying that they had faced a real battle.
Harwich had done the Club proud and were unfortunate to lose in this manner to a very good West Essex team.
Shrimpers Man of the Match - goalkeeper Brad Cook who pulled off four top class saves.
