ACORNS & SHRIMPERS HONOURS EVEN THEN HARWICH WIN PENALTY SHOOT OUT

Before the kick off the teams lined up together to lead the applause in memory of their two well loved and respected Presidents.
Harwich first chance came when Shaun Kioussis excellent free kick was well saved by the Acorns keeper. Next Shrimpers goalkeeper Brad Cook was alert to tip Oakley's danger man Danny Garrod's goal bound shot over the crossbar. Cook was in action again saving Garrod's clever shot at the angle of the crossbar and goal post. Half time came with the match being highly competitive but played in a sporting manner which was a credit to both teams.
Cook made a string of good saves for Harwich as Little Oakley threatened early in the second half. Harwich came back and Matt Geen, having a good match, unselfishly created an opening from which the Acorns defence did well to stifle Jay Eggerichs shot. A hurried clearance from Cook saw Harwich breath again when a snapshot went past the post whilst at the other end Jamie Eade's shot clipped the Acorns crossbar. Both Managers used their substitutes in the search for a winner but at the end of an excellent 90-minute pre- season work out for both teams squads the score remained level.
The crowd remained for the excitement of a penalty shootout and from the first kick a jubilant Cook dived to save. Thereafter each shot was perfect, hitting the back of the net, and Harwich ran out 5-4 winners. Little Oakley Chairman Michael Good presented the Trophy to the Shirmpers skipper.
