Harwich started well by passing the ball accurately to keep possession but Clacton had the first scoring chance when the ball flashed across the goalmouth to go just wide. Matt Geen was a dangerous attacker for Harwich down the right hand flank and created a good chance from which Jay Eggerich shot was blocked. Clacton were giving Harwich little space to operate in now and took the lead in the 30th minute. Shrimpers keeper Brad Cook made a fine point blank stop to save his team but in the 35tth minute with clinical finishing Clacton increased their lead. Harwich substitute Jamie Eade did the hard work to break through the home defence but his cross went behind the well placed Gareth Heath and the opportunity was gone. Cook made another great save by diving to thwart a certain Clacton goal and drew applause from the crowd. Luke Mayhew created a great scoring chance for Harwich but it was a combination of the Shrimpers taking too long to get their shots off and the Seasiders defending well. It was not a good half for the Harwich defence and again Clacton found space to lead 3-0 at half time.
A minute after the restart substitute Rob Pratt showed the way in which Harwich could get back into the game with an excellent first time shot to reduce the arrears. Central defender Nathan Kioussis came on for Harwich and their defence was much tighter in the second half with the game evening up. However the Clacton rearguard stood firm and the home side had done enough in the first half to deservedly retain the Trophy.
A good crowd stayed for the presentation, the draw for raffle winners and to applaud the hard work done by the Foundation.
