THE SHRIMPERS EXITED THE F A VASE BUT CAN HOLD THEIR HEADS HIGH.

It had been a traumatic week for Harwich & Parkeston with Manager Michael Wallace making the decision to step down as First Team Manager after Wednesday night's 4-1 defeat at Holland. Thankfully Michael has agreed to remain at the Club and continue with the development of the Club and Chairman Tony Armstrong has outlined the fantastic work done by Mike in a tribute on the internet, which will be reproduced on this site.
For todays match Assistant Manager Gary Kioussis took over the role in tandem with skipper Gareth Heath.
The Shrimpers were further depleted with late call offs. Central defender Nathan Kioussis and midfielder Mark Palmer came in from the Reserve Team to the starting line up and both enjoyed excellent performances.
Wanderers took an early lead through Kris Rose but Harwich battled hard and were rewarded when Gareth Heath scored with a superbly struck free kick from 20 yards. Ipswich Wanderers have only been defeated once in the League and with games in hand look sure to be strong challengers for the title but the Shrimpers refused to give them the space to play and half time came with the scores level.
The Shrimpers continued to give a good account of themselves and Wanderers knew that they were in a real cup tie battle. Gareth Heath ran his socks off whilst encouraging his team mates and he kept the visitors defence on their toes. Wanderers hit the crossbar twice but with time running out and the scores deadlocked it seemed that the tie would be decided by the match going straight to penalties. Then in the final minutes the ball eluded the Harwich defenders and with goalkeeper Brad Cook advancing , George Mrozek snatched victory for the Wanderers. The Harwich players were applauded by their supporters for every single one of them had given everything for the badge.
Harwich team: Brad Cook, Alfie Smith, Nicky Palmer, Nathan Kioussis, Jake Kioussis, Jamie Beecham, Mark Palmer, Shaun Kioussis, Gareth Heath, Declan Kama, Finlay Caro. Substitutes Used: James North and Jamie Eade.
