Harwich took the lead in the 10th minute through Clarence Emeh. Clacton came back strongly and in the 30th minute Andreas Antoniou-Garcia notched their equaliser. Young Harwich keeper Bradley Cook performed well throughout to keep Clacton at bay but Antoniou-Garcia scored again to give his team a half time lead
Matt Stace was a pillar of strength in the Harwich defence and also came forward to press with the Shrimpers attack. It was a stiff test for Harwich against a good Clacton team operating in a step higher football but well led by striker Emeh they kept striving for an equaliser until the final whistle.
Kevin Beattie played in Ipswich Town F.A. Cup winning team and in a glittering career was loved and idolised by Town fans. He played 9 times for England but injury curtailed his international career, a tragedy for player and country. Injury eventually forced Kevin to retire from top professional football but he came back to play for Harwich & Parkeston, scoring 37 goals in 50 appearances and also had a brief spell with FC Clacton as a player and manager.
