Harwich welcomed the the young Leiston Reserve team for a match that proved to be an enjoyable and good workout for both teams.
With half time approaching the Shrimpers took the lead through Joe Knight but with only a couple of minutes to go to the break Leiston equalised with a powerful shot that gave goalkeeper Charlie Pepperell no chance. Matt Stace and Nicky Palmer were experienced partners in the centre of the Harwich defence, giving the young full backs confidence and with further experience in midfield and attack the Shrimpers had a nice balance whilst Leiston also performed well to make it a competitive game. Harwich regained the lead with a Joe Knight penalty and the Shrimpers were in the ascendancy when Owen Heath extended their lead to 3-1. Leiston came back and Charlie Pepperell made a fine diving save from a goalbound free kick but he was unable to prevent the ball entering the net when the visitors reduced the arrears in the closing minutes.
