The updated regulations were in operation as football returned to the Gwinnell & Sons Royal Oak with the Harwich management having worked hard to ensure that the Club comply.
Harwich were without goakeeper Sam Felgate for this match and gave a trial run out to Maldon & Tiptree keeper Rob Lee. Harwich looked rusty after the break and the visitors looked sharper, taking the lead in the 7th minute with a cross cum shot that went into the far corner of the net giving Lee no chance. With some new players and others returning to the Club, Harwich were attempting to the get their game together and Debenham took advatage to increase the lead in the 23rd minute with a cross squared from the right being converted.
The Shrimpers were much improved in the second half with Joe Knight returning to lead the attack whilst Matt Stace and Dan Clark were forming a strong partnership at the heart of their defence. With Harwich now going onto the attack and creating chances the game was much more entertaining and Dan Clark reduced the arrears with a well taken volley following a corner. Harwich now pressed hard for an equaliser but time ran out for them.
Harwich welcomed Daryl Eagle as their Head Coach to join the management team of Manager Michael Wallace and Assistant Gary Kioussis. As a player Daryl made 161 appearances for the Harwich First Team and 84 appearances for the Reserves whilst also having spells with Little Oakley.
