Disappointment for the Shrimpers as a combination of bad luck and failure to make their superiority count cost them three points.

Harwich thought that they had scored an early goal when Charlie Lindoe crossed perfectly and Karl Andrade was certain that his close range shot had crossed the line despite the desparing last ditch clearance by a defender. The Shrimpers had been the more dangerous and with half time approaching Karl Andrade's shot brought a fine diving save from Forest goalkeeper Ollie Bessex. The was another close shave for Newbury when Wayne Blackman's effort trickled towards the net before being helped to safety. Before the break Ian Thompson received his marching orders and Forest were reduced to 10 men.
Harwich were passing the ball accurately and put Newbury Forest under constant pressure after the restart so it was against the run of the play when out of the blue Calvin Porku fired in a cross shot from wide on the right flank which left under worked Shrimpers goalkeeper Sam Felgate stranded at the near post. The Shrimpers won free kicks and corners galore but were weak in the air against the Forest defenders. With the ball on the ground they were more successful but keeper Bessex was in fine form to keep Forest in the lead. The Shrimpers were really out of luck when substitute Les Lewis cracking shot struck the crossbar and Adam Hampson failed to convert when well placed. Harwich desparetly laid seige to the Newbury goal as time ticked away in a game which they should have won with three or four goals.
There was plenty of support from the Shrimpers supporters as they urged their team on and they had played well but just not been able to finish the job.
Harwich team: Sam Felgate, Rory Harman Jack Higgleton, Ollie Law, Nicky Palmer, Wayne Blackman, Harry Miller, Harrison Banner, Adam Hampson, Karl Andrade, Charlie Lindoe, Substitutes used: Les Lewis, Billy Latto and Tyler Smith.
Next Saturday, 10th October there is a fixture change and we are now away to Athletic Newham (formerly named Lopes Tavares).
