Harwich were without goalkeeper Sam Felgate, Rory Harman and Charlie Lindoe. Charlie Pepperell took over between the sticks and the Shrimpers still fielded a strong line-up. Colne Athletics line up was packed with players experienced at senior level and there was little between the sides from the start. Scoring chances were scarce during the first half with the teams battling for midfield supremacy and both defences strong. Harwich had began to put their game together in the latter stages of the half and after the break created some openings with the visitors keeper saving well and Adam Hampson weaved his way through only to be foiled by good last second defensive action. Athletic were also dangerous and on the hour had a goal disallowed for offside. Hampson looked Harwich most likely scorer and was inches off target with an angled shot. Harwich full back Jack Higgy was impressive coming forward with some good runs down the flank. From one such excursion Hampson and Jay Eggerichs (on for Karl Andrade who is still seeking fitness from injury) were just unable to reach his cross. Newly promoted Colne look likely to be a force in the Border League Premier Division and the result could have gone either way.
Harwich squad: Charlie Pepperell, Nicky Palmer (Captain), Jack Higgy, Joe Knight, Alex Taylor, Wayne Blackman, Harry Banner, Jamie Beecham, Adam Hampton, Karl Andrade, Billy Latto, Fabio, Harry Miller, Max Copeland and Jay Eggerichs.
