Report from Tony Armstrong:-
This was certainly not the start expected by Harfwich as they made the trip to Tilbury to take on newcomers Brimsdown. The game was only a few minutes old when poor defensive tackling down the right allowed a cross to be knocked home off the knee of the home centre forward. Harwich seemed to struggle on the long grassed pitch with early passes being either intercepted or not allowing enough time to get under control. Harwich slowly started to find their way and deservedly equalised after 30 minutes when the ball was laid off for Karl Andrade to turn and fire home from the edge of the box. Harwich joy was short lived though as a wonder strike from fully 30 yards gave Sam Felgate no chance in goal. After the break Harwich improved considerably and piled on the pressure with a goal looking a certainty. Unfortunately for Harwich it came at the wrong end with Brimsdown taking a 3-1 lead. A poorly taken Harwich corner was cleared at the near post and with Harwich central defenders up for the corner, the home team raced clear and found enough space to easily increase their lead. Harwich never gave up and from a right sided corner Rory Harman reduced the deficit. The home team then decided to go down injured after virtually every challenge. The game was stopped repeatedly and resulted in 10 minutes of injury time. Harwich piled on attack after attack and actually thought that they had equalised until the Referee disallowed the goal seeing the ball strike a Harwich hand in the build up. A disappointlng start for the Shrimpers and totally unexpected after the impressive pre season. Work to be done on the training field before Harwich entertain Frenford at the Gwinnell & Son Royal Oak on Saturday (ko 3pm). Frenford started with an excellent 3-0 win against Holland on Saturday so will clearly be tough opposition.
Harwich squad against Brimsdown was Sam Felgate, Nicky Palmer, Jack Higgy, Wayne Blackman, Alex Taylor, Joe Knight, Rory Harman, Elliot Johnson, Adam Hampson, Karl Andrade, Harry Banner, Billy Latto, Charlie Lindoe, Ollie Law and Jay Eggerichs.
