Romford attacked in the opening minutes to win a corner but Harwich broke away smartly with Sam Cripps and Jordan Heath combining only to fail to penetrate the visitors defence. Romford were shooting on sight at this stage. Harwich won a free kick but Kevin Coyle shot into the defensive wall. There was a telling moment for Harwich when they appealed strongly for a penalty for a push on Cripps but the Referee waived play on. Harwich had dealt well with Romford's pressure but in the 22minute Rashid Ogun gave the vistors the lead with a shot at the near post. There was a further blow for the Shrimpers before half time when their central defender Micheal Murray unfortunately diverted Ogun's shot into his own net for Romford's second goal. The pattern of play continuted in the second half with Harwich fighting hard but being beaten to the ball by Romford when they tried to start moves out of defence. For Romford Jonathon Nzengo had been dangerous down the right flank throughout whereas Harwich were unable to get a telling pass to their leading scorer Heath until the closing minutes when his shot went just the wrong side of the post. The match had been 18 minutes late kicking off due to the visitors being delayed in traffic and with the final whistle approaching they played out time for a deserved passage through to the next round.
Disappointment for Harwich to go out but they were supported by another good crowd of over 300.
