Harwich got off to a good start by taking the lead in the 10th minute, scored by Kevin Coyle with a shot on the run. A mix up in the Harwich defence was taken advantage of by Alex Pryke who netted Brightlingsea's equaliser. Harwich regained the lead in the 30th minute when there was a scramble in the visitors goalmouth and Joe Knight prodded the ball home. Coyle thundered in a fierce shot which struck the visitors post and then in the 40th minute Brad Westley was well positioned at the far post to shoot the Shrimpers into a 3-1 lead. Brightlingsea were not looking a bottom of the table team with their nippy players causing trouble and before half time Kinght conceeded a penalty which Rocha Fosker converted to make the score 3-2 at the break.
Harwich took control and midway through the second half Tyler Rose set up Knight to score an important fourth goal for the Shrimpers. The Shrimpers used their 3 substitutes in the closing 15 minutes and with Brightlingsea trying to comeback, Coyle dropped to midfield using his experience to ensure that Harwich kept organised and earned maximum points.
