Harwich were without 5 first team regulars but proved the strength in depth of their squad. Newbury Forest had the edge in the first 20 minutes as jason Reynolds-Blanche sent some dangerous crosses flashing accross the Harwich goalmouth. However Harwich took the lead when Michael Hammond spotted the visitors keeper off his line and with a 40 yard shot placed the ball over his head and into the net. The Shrimpers went 2-0 up before half time. when Jordan Heath glided in his shot. After the break Newbury Forest had a good spell and Harwich goalkeeper Sam Felgate made some smart saves to keep them out.
