A stunning free kick by Scott Lodge in the closing minutes robbed the Shrimpers of a morale boosting win.

Harwich took the lead in the first minute when Sam Thompson broke through to round the keeper and net. Four minutes later White Notley were level with Charlie Palmer holding off a challenge to shoot past goalkeeper Tom Wood. In the 20th minute it was Harwich turn to celebrate again when following a well worked move, Will Hughes restored the Shrimpers lead with a good finish. Luke Barnard and Alex Akinola sold the home defence a dummy with Barnard picking his spot in the 38th minute to increase Harwich advantage to 3-1. With Glen Eldridge away, Tony Armstrong was filling the Managers role and he warned his Harwich team to beware as White Notley had come back in a similar situation at Harwich ealier in the season. True enough, White Notley reduced the arrears immediatley at the restart of the second half with Lodge the scorer. The match was a ding dong battle with Harwich fighting hard to hang on to their lead and giving a much improved performance compared to their recent showings. Barnard shot just over from a free kick for Harwich and with time running out it seemed that the Shrimpers would be able to gain only their second victory of 2018. Then White Notley won a free kick and from 20 yards range Lodge fired in an ustoppable kick into the far corner of the net and Harwich had to settle for a draw.
