Narrow defeat for Harwich against the League Leaders Gas Rec.

The Shrimpers restricted high flying Gas Rec to a goal in each half with a well organised defence coupled with a degree of luck. Gas Rec took the lead after 12 minute with Eldon Craig creating the chance for Harry Willoughby to net. Harwich keeper Tom Wood made a fine save to parry the ball and the follow up shot struck the goal frame. He was in action again fielding shots from Hughes and Gregory. Harwich were restricted to one shot by Luke Barnard in this period and although outplayed by the smart Gas Rec outfit, the Shrimpers were only a goal down and half time and still in the game. Harwich had some open air coaching during the interval but nearly conceeded a goal soon after the restart when Gas Rec went close with a frre kick. Wood made another good save which resulted in a corner followed by a shot that struck the upright. in the 52 minute Gas Rec got their second goal with Craig the scorer to be substituted soon after. At this stage Gas Rec had mustered 17 goal attempts against the Shrimpers single effort. Although Harwich had left it late. they concluded the game with a posititive attitude with Jack Richardson delivering a deep cross from the left that just needed diverting into the goal. Then Shrimpers skipper Ollie Lamb narrowly missed following a free kick Barnard's second effort gave Harwich their first corner before Pedro Tarley fired just over. Harwich won a penalty for hand ball which Barnard converted to reduce the arrears in the last minute.
