Harwich below their best and are held to a draw at Barnston
The Shrimpers would have hoped for a victory against lowly Barnston but after holding the lead at half time had to settle for a point.
Harwich had a good chance after only a couple of minutes but Sam Thompson shot straight at the keeper. In the early stages the Shrimpers were off target with Mitchell Payne shooting wide and then Luke Barnard failing with a free kickl. However it was rather against the run of play when Barnard did give Harwich the lead with an angled shot in the 27th minute. Payne had another opportunity but failed to test the Barnston keeper. Just before half time Alex Bell for Barnston pounced on a mistake in the Harwich defence but he shot wide and the Shrimpers just about deserved their interval lead.
In the 63rd minute Barnard had the ball in the Barnston net but was ruled off side and he also fired a free kick straight at the keeper. In the 73rd minute Matt Dorset netted Barnston's equaliser and they then used route one to put Harwich under pressure. In the closing minutes Harwich almost snatched victory when John Shuttlewood's shot kit the post.
