After a first half in which they struggled to stay in contention, the Shrimpers put in a much better second 45 minutes.

Dedham took the lead in the 18th minute when goalkeeper Tom Wood was unable to hold the greasy ball and Matt Halsey followed up to net. Harwich were under the cosh and Harrry Welham fired a fierce shot just wide. The Shrimpers had their first dangerous attack in the 30th minute wth Billy Eldridge deep cross was blasted against the crossbar by Lewis King. Keeper Wood was often called into action and he kept Harwich in the game, particularly when he tipped over Welham's goal bound drive. Half time came with Harwich relieved to go in only one goal down.
The second half was a different story with Harwich showing much more determination and confidence. In the 60th minute Alex Akinola equalised for Harwich with a clever lob from the edge of the penalty area. It was the Shrimpers turn to apply pressure and they were rewarded in the 73rd minute with King shooting them into the lead. However their advantage lasted for only 3 minutes with Welham levelling the scores. On the rain soaked pitch, the game was now an entertaining ding dong encounter and at the final whistle it ended honours even.
