Harwich first dangerous attack came in the 10th minute when Brad Westley came forward and shot just wide. Next Will Hughtes was through but Bergholt keeper Bethell saved well. West Bergholt came back to win two free kicks in good positions only on each occassion to be thwarted by good Harwich defending. Harwich took the lead in the 30th minute when Mitchell Payne's cross was perfectly struck by Matt Geen as he stabbed the ball wide of Bethell.
The match continued to be very competitive after the break with Harwich continuing to show up well. Payne again provided a dangerous cross and this time Geen shot just the wrong side of the post. Harwich scored the vital second goal in the 70th minute with Reece Townrow sending the speedy Alex Akinola on a run from which he crossed perfectly for the well placed Geen to tap in.
The Harwich defence was well marshalled by Westley and skipper Ollie Lamb with 17 year old keeper Thomas Wood making all the right decsions.
