Frustration for Harwich as they failed score in a second half in which they pressed but could not pierce the Dedham defence. Dedham shaded a low key first half in which there were few goalscoring attempts. After the break there was a scare for Harwich when their debutant goalkeeper Ryan Luckman cleared the ball straight to a Dedham attacker but redeemed himself by saving with his feet. Harwich got on top but were thwarted at every attempt by a determined Dedham defence well marshalled by the outstanding Simon Baister. With 15 minutes remaining Dedham won a free kick and Baister headed the vital goal at the far post. Harwich made desparate attempts to salvage a point with Sam Thompson forcing a fine save from the visitors keeper and Brad Westley going close.
