Shrimpers Manager Glen Eldridge had two key players unavailable in skipper Michael Murray and Ashley Wood. Harwich took time to get going and goalkeeper Sam Felgate was forced to save against a lively Athletic team. He was in action again and was booked for a hand ball outside his area. The Shrimpers settled down and thought they would take the lead but Matt Geen was ruled offside. Brantham had the edge but Harwich Sam Thompson but couldnot convert and half time arrived goal less.
The Shrimpers made a better start to the second half with their vital goal coming midway through this period. Ryan Munson was brought down and Luke Barnard tucked away the resultant penalty. Felgate was called up and made a superb save to deny Brantham. Another highlight for Harwich saw Ollie Lamb rattle the crossbar with a great header. It was a hard working performance from Harwich against a determined Athletic and the Shrimpers saw out time to gain three valuable points against a team who were neck and neck with them in the table. Brad Westley had another excellent man of the match performance for Harwich, making a vital goal line clearance.
