Earls Colne were quick out of the blocks and caught the Shrimpers napping with a goal in the 3rd minute when Jack Nicholls scored with a shot in off the far post. Harwich equalised 5 minutes later with Luke Barnard providing Matt Geen with the opportunity from which he netted. Harwich took the lead in the 15th minute when the visitors keeper Pat Greenwood pushed the ball out but Michael Murray seized the chance to volley home. The Shrimpers were on top now and Geen returned the compliment to Barnard by setting him up to scored their 3rd goal. Five minutes from half time Geen made it 4-1 with a super 12 yard shot into the corner of the net.
After the break Harwich kept up the pressure and with Ollie Lamb in close attendance, Earls Colne conceeded an own goal. Next Murray surged forward and exchanged passes with Barnard before scoring his second goal and the Shrimpers 6th. Ashley Wood fired in a fierce drive and a cluster of Earls Colne defenders could only help the ball into the net. Geen was brought down but Murray could not take the chance to complete his hat trick with Greewood saving his penalty kick.
