Harwich lose but battle hard against Championship contenders

Gas Rec were quicker to the ball and giving Harwich no space from the start. In the 18th minute Harwich keeper Sam Felgate made a great save when he tipped Eldon Craig's point blank drive over the crossbar. Harwich resisted stoutly until the 31st minute when a long pass into no mans land between the out coming Felgate and his defence allowed Ryan Dale to shoot into the unguarded net. On a heavy pitch, Gas Rec had been impressive and but for Harwich tenacity would have enjoyed more than their one goal interval lead.
Gas Rec increased their lead in the 53rd minute when Harwich were unable to clear their lines and Craig scored from close range. Harwich were back in the game in the 72 minute when Luke Barnard seized on an opportunity to work his way into the penalty and and score. The Shrimpers now matched Gas and went in search of an equaliser. With eight minutes remaining Harwich failure to defend corners cost them dearly with substitute Ryan Taylor's header at the far post restoring Gas Rec's 2 goal lead. In the last minute Taylor netted a fourth goal for Gas.
