A car accident on the way back from last weekend's match meant 4 changes to Shrimpers line up and travel disruption this week further complicated things. However they were still able to field a decent team and Connaught proved themselves to be an up and coming outfit. In fact the visitors were the more dangerous in the early stages and only the post and the crossbar prevented them from taking the lead. Having survived these scares Harwich opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Luke Barnard netted from the penalty spot. Ten minutes from half time the Shrimpers scored their second goal when Darren Tarling finished off a good move. Stand-in goalkeeper Russell Lamb made a couple of good saves when Connaught threatened again.
After the interval Red Star continued to give a good account of themselves in search of the goal which would bring them back into contention. Harwich knew that a third goal would put the issue beyond doubt and it came when Ashley Wood sent in a perfectly measured cross and Barnard scored his second goal with a well placed shot from an acute angle.
