Harwich could not be faulted for their fighting spirit in a match that ended with them having used their substitutes and consequently down to 10 men. Hatfield took the lead in the 3rd minute when Lawrence Hunt pounced on an attempted clearance. Midway through the half the Shrimpers fell further behind when they conceeded an own goal. In the 27th minute Ashley Wood and Matt Geen set up Michael Palmer who reduced the arrears. Palmer was close to scoring again when his effort hit the woodwork.
Darren Tarling came on for injured skipper Michael Murray and equalised in the 55th minute. Jake Richardson then put Harwich into the lead and things look good for them when in the 75th minute Matt Geen made it 4-2 with a fine goal from a difficult angle. It was not to be and Ben Palmer and Hunt made it honours even when the Shrimpers were down to 10 men.
