Craig Martin's pace troubled the visitors defence from the start and in the 9th minute he sent Matt Geen off on a run from which he gave Harwich the lead. Three minutes later Ashley Wood crossed and Jake Neale headed in the Shrimpers second goal. Andy Fennell proved to be Hatfield's most dangerous player but defender Dom Nea and goalkeeper Sam Felgate combined to thwart him. In the 24th minute Harwich scored their third goal with a terrific crossfield shot from Martin which zoomed into the net at the far post. Fennell slid the ball just wide as Hatfield tried to get back but Harwich had dominated the first half.
The second period was more evenly contested but Harwich cutting edge was evident again midway through the half when Geen drove in goal number four. In the 72nd minute the Assistant Referee ruled that Fennell's header had crossed the line despite Felgate's valiant effort to claw it back and Hatfield had a deserved consolation goal for their efforts.
