Both teams were anxious to move out of the bottom four in the table and produced a dull first half with little pattern to their play. Harwich failed to manage a shot of any sort during this period whilst Earls Colne did a little better but their efforts were easily dealt with by goalkeepr Sam Felgate. With a minute to go before half time Earls Colne took the lead they got round the back of the Harwich defence and Steve May scored from close range.
In the 60th minute Harwich at last mounted a dangerous attack which started with a long pass from the back and from Luis Reynolds cross, Matt Geen equalised with a glancing header. It looked as though this would spur Harwich back to form but disaster struck when the usually dependable Jake Neale attempted a difficult clearance facing goal but he completely missed the ball leaving Joe Paton with a clear path from which he restored Earls Colne's lead. Earls Colne defended their lead well and as the game wore on Harwich became increasingly desparate. May missed a good chance to wrap the game up for Earls Colne whilst substitute Double went close for Harwich with a shot that went inches outside the post.
