Barnston took the lead in the 12th minute with a very neatly taken goal when Joe Jones lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Sam Felgate and then ran around him to net. The visitors were on top at this stage and there were further scoring changes for Jake D'eath and Red Carney. Harwich came back with a long range shot from Ashley Wood and later had a strong penalty appeal turned down. The Shrimpers equalised in the 40th minute when Matt Geen was fouled and Michael Hammond despatched the free kick accurately into the roof of the net. However Barnaton regained the lead before half time with a glancing header from Mick Simmons which hit both uprights and then struck Felgate before crossing the line.
Play was even in the second half and Harwich levelled the scores in the 73rd minute when a hand ball gave Darren Bethell the opportunity to net from the penatly spot. Barnston staged a late assault on the Harwich goal with Felgate twice making excellent point blank saves from Jones.
